As part of the Macksville Library refurbishment, Resource Furniture partnered with the council to create a welcoming destination that reflects the evolving role of today’s public libraries. Designed to support learning, connection and everyday use, the refreshed interior offers inviting spaces where visitors of all ages can read, study, collaborate and participate in community activities.
A key objective of the project was flexibility. Our Sliimform shelving system showcases the collection in an engaging way while making it easy to reconfigure the layout for events, programs and changing community needs. Carefully planned zoning also creates dedicated areas for quiet reading, collaborative work and group activities, allowing multiple users to enjoy the space simultaneously.
Supporting Young Readers and Lifelong Learning
The children’s area was transformed with tailored soft seating like a Charley Ottoman, picture book boxes and loose furniture, creating a vibrant, welcoming environment that encourages curiosity, early literacy and independent reading. The refreshed space has quickly become a favourite among young readers and their families, making it easier to browse, explore and enjoy the collection.
Beyond the children’s area, new meeting pods provide private spaces for study groups and small meetings, while study carrels offer comfortable places for visitors to work using their own devices. A redesigned circulation desk has also opened up the entrance, improving accessibility, increasing floor space and creating a more welcoming arrival experience for patrons.
A Space Ready for the Future
The completed Library refurbishment demonstrates how thoughtful furniture design can transform a public library into a flexible, future-ready community hub. By creating adaptable spaces that support learning, collaboration and connection, the library is now better equipped to serve its community for years to come.
