Based on the famous encounter of sea captains, Matthew Flinders and Nicolas Baudin in 1802 the theme suitably captured by the Victor Harbor Library for the new children’s library is nautical.
RF account manager, Glenn Dey, assisted librarians Caren Henderson and Tori Williams to plan and design a functional and captivating area.
The update of the ‘Encounter Kids Space’ is an excellent example of small communities coming together to raise money and also contribute their personal time and skills to create an engaging space for the children.
Local artist Mandy Foot was the illustrator of the captains for the ship, she worked with children from Encounter Lutheran College and Victor Harbor R-7 to create the characters.
At the recent opening the mayor, Graham Philp, and Pip Burfield got into the spirit of the nautical theme and dressed as the famous explorers’.
Since the refurbishment has taken place the library has recorded a significant increase in loans and there have been noticeably more visitors.
